Apply nowApplications are invited for the position of Developer within the Life Applications Development team within Group IT. This is an excellent opportunity for you to progress your IT career and play a vital role in delivering strategic business and project change, supporting and shaping the future of the AIA policy application. Working proactively to meet ambitious deadlines, you will use your technical, problem solving and communication skills to liaise with IT colleagues and the Life business to identify requirements and translate non-technical specifications into working solutions.
Working within both the SSDLC and ITIL framework, you will be responsible for ensuring that all code produced meets regulatory, industry and internal standards, group policies and guidelines, and be responsible for implementing an ethos of best practice and continuous improvement with the AIA Software Team.
You will be required to support a small number of release weekends throughout the year. The role will necessitate engagement with business stakeholders, so the successful candidate must have good communication skills. You will be required to meet personal performance objectives and KPIs.
Key responsibilities include:
Consult and advise business stakeholders on new business initiatives requiring IT solutions within area of expertise, in order to ensure a planned and cohesive IT development approach that meets business needs and is aligned to Group IT Strategy.
Review, analyse and evaluate IT system requirements in collaboration with IT Business Analysts and IT Solution Designers to ensure that they provide sufficient clarity to enable the production of technical development estimates and effective IT system development.
Evaluate and interpret end-to-end technical system designs and collaborate with IT Solution Designers to ensure that the final IT solution is fit for purpose and meets the agreed system requirements.
Configure, develop, unit test and integrate technical code changes in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders as required, to build technical solutions to agreed estimates, time and quality requirements.
Document and direct the handover of software into business-as-usual (BAU) operation and coordinate the resolution of live technical incidents and system problems as and when required, in accordance with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.
Research, understand and apply new technical tools, processes and technical developments to promote continuous improvement in quality and efficiency standards throughout the software development lifecycle.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
Broad experience in a development environment with knowledge of the full secure software development lifecycle
Previous experience of using the Prolog language or GraphTalk, with a good understanding of the Object-oriented programming (OOP) paradigm.
Ability to use methodical approaches in performing analysis, design and development, with an aim in promoting maintainability and future-proofing of changes.

Qualifications/Other
Candidates must have 5 GCSE’s grade C or above (which must include Maths and English).
Candidates should be educated to degree standard or possess an equivalent professional qualification.
Candidates will have to work some weekends and out of hours, on a rota basis.
