We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Underwriter to join our Head Office Underwriting function who are responsible for recommending and developing underwriting strategies for our general insurance products and the rules, processes and communications required to execute it effectively.

Key accountabilities for this role include;

• Translating underwriting appetite into workable rules, processes and communications for use by NFU Mutual Agents and Underwriters to enable the effective, consistent execution of risk appetite and optimise the performance of the sales channel.


• Identify and secure data and management information required to inform and continually improve underwriting strategy and enable NFU Mutual to respond quickly to meet current and new business requirements.


• Review and provide ‘expert judgement’ to risk rates to ensure rates and rating logic are informed with the benefit of deep insurance and market knowledge.


• Recommend and deliver activity to continually improve the underwriting knowledge and capabilities of the business through the application of insight and expert judgement to improve customer experience and the effective management of insurance risk cost.


• Act as the final point of referral, manage the administration and resolution of complex, high value and contentious cases and referrals in accordance with limits of authority, policies, procedures and SLAs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and fair outcomes for members

We are seeking a dynamic general insurance professional with strong technical Commercial underwriting experience and ideally prior experience of working as pat a team directly accountable for underwriting risk selection, account performance and underwriting rules for Commercial Insurance.

This role will include lots of interaction across different areas of the business, and so it is important that you are able to demonstrate strong stakeholder skills and the ability and confidence to influence and challenge decisions
