About the role

At NFU Mutual over 80 people are focused on change and project management across the business. Our mission is to lead, define, design and deliver the change portfolio to optimise business operation and progression for the overall benefit of NFU Mutual and our customers.


Our Change Delivery team of ensure the effective, on-time delivery of all projects and programmes. The team delivers change through the coordinated management of projects and change management activities, helping NFUM Mutual achieve our strategy and deliver against our objectives.


We now have a fantastic opportunity for experienced Programme Managers to join our Group Change Department. Reporting to the Head of Change Delivery, the main purpose of the role is to lead, control and manage strategic programmes or more complex projects through the full project lifecycle- from definition to transition into business as usual. It’s also to lead preprogrammes or large projects in accordance with NFU Mutual Change Framework to successfully deliver to best practice. Some of the key accountabilities will include:



  • Define programmes and/or complex projects including scope, deliverables, roles and responsibilities and ensure they are clear, agreed and communicated to all key stakeholders

  • Plan, structure, track, report on and lead programme activity in line with NFU Mutual Change Framework to ensure that stakeholders, dependencies, cost, quality and time are managed within agreed parameters

  • Design, establish and lead the programme team ensuring the appropriate skills and behaviours are in place to enable project delivery in an efficient and cost-effective way

  • Source, select, procure and manage third party suppliers and services in liaison with Group Procurement, Group IT, Legal and Finance departments in accordance with standards, policies and agreements as required by the project

  • Anticipate, monitor, manage and report on progress, risks and issues in line with NFU Mutual Risk Policy and NFU Mutual Change Framework to protect the programme deliverables and benefits defined in the Business Case

  • Plan, prepare, approve, deliver and evaluate communications and key messages to ensure the effective flow of information to project team members and stakeholders

  • Lead, inspire, manage and develop direct reports and build effective talent and succession plans to drive high performance and ensure the effective delivery of programmes and projects

About you

As a Programme Manager, you will have the right mixture of technical knowledge- as well as being able to engage and communicate clearly with stakeholders at all levels. You will be the type of person that has strong leadership qualities to lead teams and can share knowledge, to upskill and coach colleagues. You will also be or have:



  • PRINCE2 Practitioner (or equivalent Project Management Qualification) is essential (or willingness to work towards)

  • Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner (desirable)

  • Change Management Certification (desirable)

  • Experience of successfully delivering programmes based upon time, cost and quality criteria (essential)

  • Experience of running multiple projects concurrently (essential)

  • Experience of establishing effective relationships with and influencing stakeholders

  • Excellent knowledge of project and programme management best practice, including techniques for planning, monitoring and control (essential)

  • Experience of leading and managing a diverse programme team

  • Experience of working in a Change Management environment (preferred)

  • Experience of leading, inspiring, managing and develop direct reports, building effective talent and succession plans

  • Insurance or Financial Services industry background (preferred)
