About the role

We are looking for a talented Accountant to join our Properties Finance team at NFU Mutual. We are a small specialist team, working within the wider Finance Division, to support the business across a wide range of activities. From reporting on the performance of the property investment funds, to the financial management of the occupational property portfolio, this is a great learning opportunity to take the lead across a range of diverse areas.

You will focus on leading, managing and controlling the processing of property-related income and expenditure, ensuring compliance, controls and SLAs are achieved, alongside providing management information (MI) and analysis to deliver effective portfolio management.


  • Lead, manage and review the accurate, timely and efficient processing of property-related expenditure.

  • Driving team performance regarding compliance, controls and SLAs

  • Develop and monitor processes, systems and controls to manage and mitigate risk.

  • Continuously drive process improvements and ensure processes are standardised across the team.

  • Budget management (including month end reporting, variance analysis and reforecasting).

  • Tax returns including VAT returns, CGT, CIS and Capital Allowances.

  • Financial accounting including balance sheet extracts for inclusion in the Group’s Report and Accounts, along with supporting notes.

  • Identification and management of financial risks including credit vetting of suppliers and tenants.

  • Provide day to day technical accounting support to the department and the ledgers team.

  • Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders in addition to external relationships with Managing Agents

  • Maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including suppliers and tenants.

What we're looking for

Experience and Knowledge

  • Technical accounting knowledge

  • Exposure to a controls environment.

  • Experience with continuous improvement activities.

  • Confident with accountancy software

  • A positive, can-do attitude.

  • Strong working knowledge of sales and purchase ledger functions.

  • Ability to lead and manage direct and indirect reports, driving performance, where required.

  • Strong communication and multi-taking skills with a focus on strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, along with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.

  • Experience of using Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software is essential.

NFU Mutual are happy to offer its employees informal homeworking. Our team  located in Stratford-upon-Avon and it would be expected that on average, 50% of your working time would be located from this office, with the remaining days home based should you wish. Due to COVID-19, our employees continue to work from home and a return to the office is being planned for later in the year.
