About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Business Partner to join our Finance Department here at NFUM Mutual. Reporting to the FP&A Manager and having 1 direct report, the main purpose of the role is to facilitate Finance Business Partnering and Planning across the business (mainly the Strategy, Business Architecture and Group Change teams). It’s also to provide challenge, insight and analysis to business units - enabling them to make informed decisions in line with the Group’s long-term strategic objectives. Some key accountabilities will include:



  • Partner, influence and challenge the business to ensure the financial implications of business decisions and change are fully considered and to contribute commercial insight and best practice to business development.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders, other internal customers, external suppliers and industry and professional bodies to understand business dynamics and ensure the effective delivery of objectives.

  • Coordinate, lead, advise on and challenge short- and long-term business performance planning and ongoing review to ensure robust financial plans are delivered, monitored and controlled.

  • Anticipate, define and facilitate the delivery and interpretation of management information, financial modelling and reporting to enable effective decision making and financial control.

  • As part of the management team, identify, propose and facilitate the delivery of improvements to the partnering, planning and analysis proposition, including structure, policy, systems and processes, to reflect best fit, enhance customer experience and develop excellence in in these areas.

  • Coach, mentor and guide internal customers and Finance team members to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of their work and to support the development of skills and competence.

  • Lead, manage, motivate and develop direct reports so that they know what’s expected, can maximise their contribution to business objectives and realise their potential.

What we're looking for

As our Senior Finance Business Partner, you will have clear and effective communication skills, being able to engage with stakeholders at all levels and not afraid to get into the thick of things. You will have the right mix of technical knowledge and experience - as well as having strong leadership qualities and management skills. Having gravitas and strong influencing skills is key, along with a collaborative working style & approach. You’ll also be or have:



  • A recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or equivalent professional qualification.

  • Significant experience within FP&A, with a high level of Commercial acumen, ideally within a financial sector organisation

  • Thrive in a fast paced and dynamic working environment with the ability to use judgement and initiative to drive and influence strategic decision making.

  • A dynamic and independent thinker - looking at things holistically with the ability to see and understand connections and wider implications as well as the detail.

  • Financial knowledge of modelling, analysis, evaluation, planning and forecasting with strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Prior experience of working with long term financial projection models and/or Activity Based Costing would be advantageous

  • Experience of using a system based planning tool, such as Adaptive, Anaplan, SAP etc.

  • Strong IT skills to include advanced spreadsheet and data manipulation skills, with particular reference to MS Excel, Power BI and Business Objects.

  • Ability to gather and analyse internal and external data from a wide range of sources in order to drive commercial insight.

  • Ability to explain complex financial information in written and verbal form to financial and non-financial people.

  • Strong continuous improvement and change management skills

  • Able to prioritise own workload within tight deadlines.
