What first attracted you to NFU Mutual?
I was initially drawn to NFU Mutual's people-first culture and its mutual status. I was aware that NFU Mutual had a great reputation for supporting their members which is reflected in the approach to both products and services.

How does the graduate scheme work?
It is a three-year rotational programme which enables you to gain broad exposure across the business. I'm doing 6-month placements whilst also working towards my CII Diploma. On top of the rotational element and further study opportunities, we have the opportunity to attend training days to develop skills such as, but not limited to, Presentation skills, Coaching and Resilience - all of which are essential for accelerating your career.

What do you like best about your job?
What I enjoy the most is the variety! So far, I have worked in Motor Claims, Motor and Personal Underwriting and now Personal Lines Propositions. Each rotation can be tailored to your interests and growth, and you are encouraged to explore different business areas. This allows you to understand the bigger picture of the company and enables you to discover where your interests lie.

How are you supported in your role?
NFU Mutual have supported both my professional and personal development, as mentioned above we have access to professional qualifications, training courses and much more. Everybody genuinely wants to see you succeed and add value.

Support comes through many avenues such as my manager, colleagues and the team who oversee the graduate scheme. The team can also support in defining your career path as you progress throughout the graduate scheme.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment so far is achieving my Certificate in Insurance in just three weeks. The knowledge gained from this has been invaluable in gaining a good understanding of the Insurance world at the start of the scheme.

What advice would you have for someone starting out?
Never be afraid to ask questions, it shows that you are engaged and want to learn - people are always happy to help and share knowledge. I would also say that it is important to remember that networking is a two-way interaction, it is always good to think about not just what you can learn from the other person, but what insight you may also be able to provide to them.

What makes NFU Mutual such a great place to work?
There is a lot of focus on development, flexibility, and your wellbeing. Access to hybrid working and technology also encourages collaboration across regions which is great for expanding your network, as well as for promoting a work-life balance.

How did you find the onboarding experience?
I found the onboarding experience well-organised, and people focused. It enabled me to feel prepared and welcomed from the start and also encouraged interaction amongst our cohort of graduates. It was really valuable building these relationships right from the beginning and created a real sense of community.

What is your current role?
My current role is in the Personal Lines Propositions team, working on customer-focused product development across a range of product lines. Our team enables important collaboration with key stakeholders including Underwriting and Pricing, and we analyse products from both a strategic and conduct lens.
