What first attracted you to NFU Mutual?
I was first attracted to NFU Mutual by its company values, which aligned with my own personal values, and its credentials as a great employer. The NFU Mutual graduate schemes appeared well-established, diverse, and thorough, which appealed to me greatly, when seeking my next challenge, after my undergraduate degree.

How did you find the onboarding experience?
Throughout the onboarding experience, I always felt supported. The whole onboarding process is well-thought out and thorough, covering all necessary areas that a new starter might have questions or concerns about. However, I also always knew who to go to if I did have any other questions to ask. Overall, the onboarding process made me feel welcomed and excited to start my journey at NFU Mutual.

What is your current role?
My role is Marketing and Digital Professional Trainee

How does the graduate scheme work?
The graduate scheme is three years in Marketing and Digital and consists of four 9-month-long placements within the Marketing and Digital division at NFU Mutual. During the three years, I will work towards a qualification, receive extensive training, and gain invaluable experience across a range of marketing and digital roles.

What do you like best about your job?
What I like most about my job is the genuine care and investment shown towards me by my peers, colleagues, and managers. The culture at NFU Mutual is one that is supportive, empowering, and inclusive, which motivates me to do my job to the best of my ability, every day.

How have NFU Mutual invested in you as a person?
NFU Mutual have invested in me in numerous ways. I have received extensive training already on topics such as presentation skills, effective influencing, and time management, and have lots more planned in for my second year. The company has supported me in completing Level 3 CII certification, Thinkbox TV Masters, and will support me in gaining another qualification before my time on the scheme ends. I’ve been supported to take time away from my day-to-day work to attend exhibitions and external training events, such as Festival of Marketing in London, and the Farming Immersion Day at Harper Adams University, as well as visit agencies within the NFU Mutual Agency Network across the country, and our Mutual Direct customer services team in Glasgow.

How are you supported in your role?
I am supported greatly by both my People Manager, and my placement manager, who are both supportive, enthusiastic, and empowering role models for me. They always have time for me, are empathetic and flexible, which supports me in doing my job to the best of my ability. My colleagues and peers are also all supportive of each other, and the general culture at NFU Mutual is grounded in support and encouragement, which continues to motivate me every day.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment was delivering the Which? Insurance Brand of the Year campaign, which I led 9-months into my role. This consisted of organising and leading several meetings with 10+ senior stakeholders, collaborating with creative agencies, communicating with Marketing and Digital Director Bev Mitchell, and overseeing the updates to various marketing channels when it was announced that we had won, including our website, social media, internal communications, TV ads, and more. I received fantastic feedback for how I conducted myself throughout the campaign, and it was great to see the updates carried out in a creative but still timely and compliant manner.

What advice would you have for someone starting out?
My advice for someone starting out would be to be curious, be proactive, and be enthusiastic - all traits you’ll already have if you’ve been successful in being offered any role at NFU Mutual. You’re going to be supported by a great company and great people, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, suggest ideas, and seek opportunities for growth and development. But, also, perhaps most importantly, enjoy it!

What makes NFU Mutual such a great place to work?
The people truly make NFU Mutual a great place to work. The culture at NFU Mutual is grounded in support, inclusivity, and empowerment, which motivates me to do my job to the best of my ability, every day.
