What inspired you to choose NFU Mutual for your career?
My connection to farming and the rural economy significantly influenced my decision. Growing up, I had positive experiences with NFU Mutual through their equine insurance, and I was always impressed with their strong reputation as an employer. I wanted to be part of a company that had a great track record with clients and aligned with my background and values.
Can you describe your journey through the Financial Services scheme at NFU Mutual?
I began with the Financial Services Governance and Risk scheme, but soon discovered that I was more driven by sales. After shadowing a financial adviser, I realised that was the role I wanted to pursue. I transitioned to the Financial Services Sales scheme, where I honed my skills and worked towards becoming a financial adviser. It was a rewarding process, and I achieved my goal after two years on the scheme.
How did you find the onboarding experience at NFU Mutual?
The onboarding was incredibly transparent and informative. I had ample opportunities to meet with senior leaders and key players across General Insurance and Financial Services. This helped me understand the broader business context and build valuable relationships with fellow graduates. It was a great introduction to the company and set a positive tone for my journey.
What is your current role, and what does it involve?
I currently work as a Financial Adviser in the South East. In this role, I assist clients in planning their financial futures, offering tailored advice to help them achieve their goals. It’s a fulfilling position that allows me to use my skills to make a real difference in people’s lives.
What development activities have you undertaken as part of the scheme?
During the scheme, I completed several qualifications to build my expertise. I started with the CII Level 3 Certificate in Insurance, then progressed to the Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning. My journey culminated with the Level 6 Chartered Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. Each step has been crucial in developing my skills and knowledge in financial services.
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
My biggest achievement has been completing the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and securing my first role as a financial adviser. Both milestones represent a significant personal and professional accomplishment, reflecting my growth and dedication to my career.
What advice would you give to graduates applying to NFU Mutual?
Be yourself and let your personality shine through in your application and interviews. Authenticity is key, so share true stories that highlight your achievements and competencies. Research the company thoroughly - understand its values, the competitive landscape, and what sets it apart. This preparation will help you articulate why you’re a great fit and how you can contribute to their success.
