What first attracted you to NFU Mutual?
I chose NFU Mutual due to the dedication to their employees’ development and commitment to customer centric values. During the recruitment process I was impressed by how personal the process was. I had the chance to talk to employees and managers about the company’s support to customers and how the teams work to achieve this.

What do you like best about your job?
I have received immense support in gaining my qualifications including study days, study mentor, apprenticeship support and more.

How are you supported in your role?
During my time on the Professional Trainee Scheme, I have taken part in training such as Resilience Skills, Effective Influencing and Presentation Skills, aimed to develop softer skills. These have been helpful to understand how to develop my strengths and be able to apply knowledge learnt to everyday work.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
My biggest achievement so far has been passing my first IFOA exam, Actuarial Mathematics, with the resources provided by the company and support from others within actuarial. I regularly apply knowledge learnt from the qualification to my work.

What advice would you have for someone starting out?
Spend time learning and researching companies core values and qualities. Think about times you have been able to demonstrate these values within your own work experience and education.

How did you find the onboarding experience?
At the beginning of the scheme, I had the opportunity to take part in a week-long induction with other graduates joining the business. We were able to learn more about the business through colleagues from graduates to department directors. It was beneficial to gain knowledge about other teams and working parts of the company to build a larger picture of NFUM.

What is your current role?
I am currently in my second year of the Actuarial Trainee Scheme within Commercial Actuarial Services. My role as an Actuarial Trainee within Commercial Actuarial Services involves providing actuarial support to a range of Finance Services business areas as well as carrying out checks and testing to make sure that customer policy values are correct.
