What first attracted you to NFU Mutual?
I chose to apply to NFU Mutual largely because of their excellent reputation, both nationally as a great company to do business with and locally as a fantastic employer. Their commitment to investing in professional development and early careers also really stood out to me.

How does the graduate scheme work?
I am on the Cyber Security graduate scheme, which consists of three long-term placements across different areas of our Cyber Security function. I have gained hands-on experience in Vulnerability Management, Technical Security Consultancy, and Cyber Operations.

What do you like best about your job?
Each team has challenged me to apply and develop a different set of skills, giving me a well-rounded understanding of cyber security within the organisation.

How are you supported in your role?
I have completed several professional development activities during my time on-scheme, including industry-recognised qualifications such as OSCP and CompTIA Security+, as well as various internal training courses and workshops. I am also undertaking a Master’s degree, which NFU Mutual are supporting me to achieve alongside my day-to-day role.

What has been your proudest moment so far?
A recent highlight for me has been taking a lead role in coordinating threat intelligence within Cyber Operations. Having the opportunity to shape our security control and threat hunting direction so early in my career has been both challenging and highly rewarding.

What advice would you have for someone starting out?
Know the company - NFU Mutual does a lot of great work across all business areas. Make sure you research our core values, recent initiatives and what really sets us apart from the competition.

How did you find the onboarding experience?
Onboarding was very smooth. In particular, the level of communication between receiving my offer and starting on my first day was excellent. During our first few weeks, our on-scheme managers organised mini placements across all the Cyber Security teams, which really helped us to land on our feet and build rapport early on.

What is your current role?
I am currently on placement with the Cyber Operations team, responsible for detecting and responding to threats across our IT estate. My role is a mix of everything, from programming detection logic to researching and investigating threats in the wider community.
