Dave Dobson, Agency Manager (North West and Wales)

I joined NFU Mutual’s graduate scheme straight out of university in 2013. The variety of placements really appealed to me, as I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. Since then, I’ve had a variety of roles and been able to spend time in some of the best parts of the UK and further afield.

In 2018 I even spent four months in New Zealand on an exchange programme with an agriculture-based insurer there. Alongside all this, I’ve been able to deliver interesting and engaging work at every step of my career and can honestly say I’ve enjoyed every role I’ve had.

Robbie Wallace, Flagship Branch Manager

I love the variety of my work here. I’m effectively running a business within the business and charged with the same aims of fulfilling the overall company goals, so I’m responsible for quality, people, operational issues and KPI’s. I’m also Group Secretary for NFU Scotland, which has brought me closer to our farming members, helping them with issues that aren’t insurance related.

This variety has certainly helped me grow professionally. Advising a range of customers, I’ve had to gain knowledge in different sectors. There’s a lot of product and technical training, as well as courses and workshops available in areas such as business planning, people management and general management. I’d say my management capabilities have certainly been enhanced since joining the business.

Jane Cann, National Agency Technical Manager

When I joined NFU Mutual in 1986 as a professional trainee, I was impressed with the focus on learning and personal development, which included support to gain CII qualifications. Since then, the business has invested in me throughout my career.

As well as support from my managers and colleagues, I’ve had opportunities to get involved in new initiatives and projects, developing new skills and learning about different parts of the business all the time. Working in the Agency department gives me a fantastic opportunity to interact and work with many NFU Mutual teams to develop the agency network. It’s an environment where you learn so much about the business.
