At NFU Mutual, Change is where strategy becomes reality. Our mission in Change is to deliver business outcomes for NFU Mutual and our customers. More than just delivering projects, we make a real difference. The Change portfolio is about future-proofing NFU Mutual and our service offering ensures we’re fit for purpose, aligned to industry best practice, and ready to deliver the outcomes our customers expect. Ultimately, if we don’t deliver against strategy, the business doesn’t realise its ambitions.

Our service offering to the business covers all aspects of change, from large-scale transformation to fast-paced initiatives. We bring the end-to-end expertise, right from building the Strategic Change Roadmap through to supporting the business until change is fully embedded. The demand on us has grown, and the complexity of our work has increased. Historically, we’ve focused mainly on big, centrally funded programmes. But now, change is happening everywhere across the business – across divisions, in local teams – and all of it is interconnected.

This service consists of:

The Portfolio Design & Insights Team manage the pipeline of change to ensure that the change roadmap is aligned to our company strategy. They produce quality data and insights, so we know the portfolio is deliverable and affordable.

The Planning Team ensure that planning is joined up across the portfolio and timely interventions can be made to keep us on track.

The PMO Services Team is deployed into project teams, holding them to account for adhering to our Change Framework standards, ensuring that we have quality data and can act on early warning indicators to support effective management of the portfolio.

The Change Framework & Capability Team ensure we have a robust Change Framework that works well for NFU Mutual, together with the capability needed to underpin delivery.

Enterprise Portfolio Delivery (EPD)

This service consists of:

The Programme Delivery Team is responsible for delivery against the agreed vision and business outcomes of our large complex programmes.

The Sub-Portfolio Delivery Team is responsible for delivery and business outcomes for groups of affiliated projects, supporting a more modular and flexible approach.

Enterprise Change Management (ECM)

This service consists of:

The Change Management Delivery Team which supports the business to ensure effective change adoption and realisation of agreed business outcomes.

The Change Management Practice Team ensures we have the right toolkit, effectively manages business impact and change saturation at the portfolio level, and that benefits land even after project closure.

Portfolio Assurance

The Assurance Team is our first line of defence, working collaboratively with all Group Change Services, Business Sponsors, and the second and third lines to assure the Portfolio. This pivotal service is instrumental in mitigating risks proactively and accelerating the application of lessons learned when events occur.

Liz Thomas, Portfolio Management

When I joined NFU Mutual in 2017, I was attracted by the fact that everyone here talks about what a great company it is to work for. Since I joined, I’ve had lots of support to develop my career. I started in Group Change and then moved to Portfolio Management, which fired my ambition to look into becoming a leader.

So, the company gave me the opportunity to go on an external leadership course. This helped me to understand my personal qualities as a leader and how I can use them effectively. I hugely appreciated the opportunity and have used a lot of what I’ve learned.

Paul Nicholas, Programme Management

The culture at NFU Mutual is very much one of inclusion. This starts at interview stage, through induction and continues from there. Teams are relatively small, so you build relationships very quickly. But with the scale of the organisation, those relationships grow rapidly.

It’s a people-centric culture too, and this works through both professional and social channels. There’s a wonderful mix of people and experience here, which means there’s always someone able to support you. That could be through knowing how something works, or being able to provide an introduction to someone who can help. The culture’s also extremely professional, so there are great opportunities to learn and develop.
