Meet some of the team
Kay Henderson, Graduate Trainee (Press Office)
I knew NFU Mutual was a place I wanted to work from my first interview. Graduate schemes are competitive and the interview process can be stressful, but this one put me at ease straight away. I could tell they wanted me to give my best and would support me to achieve it - and that’s how it’s been ever since.
What’s really impressed me is the sheer volume and variety of support available. I joined the business unsure what specific marketing role I wanted to take up. I was able to try out lots of areas, identify PR as my real passion, then gain PR experience from a talented and experienced team.
Zahra Aurangzeb, Graduate Trainee (Audit)
I joined NFU Mutual in 2019, it was the culture that attracted me as it seemed very customer focused and its principles aligned with my own. The Mutual has a friendly and positive environment and is very accommodating to personal needs. I'm currently studying for an ACCA qualification and it can be difficult studying and working at the same time.
NFU Mutual gave me the opportunity to gain my qualification on an apprenticeship scheme, and it has been extremely helpful. I’ve been attending classroom-based sessions, which has enabled me to study to my full potential and still have my weekends free, allowing me to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Aleksandra Lambrecht, Graduate Trainee
I was looking for an employer that would support my professional development, and this was something that NFU Mutual offered. I also read a lot of positive statements online about the company. The NFU Mutual culture is very employee friendly, since joining I have had a lot of support and received flexibility to have time off work in order to prepare for my exams.
There are very good work/life balance opportunities, as well as development possibilities. I’ve completed PRINCE2 qualifications, taken courses in MS Excel and PowerBI and I’m working towards the auditing qualifications. I’ve also participated in a series of workshops, covering topics such as resilience and effective influencing.
Rhys Bowen, Graduate Trainee (Financial Analysis)
When I joined NFU Mutual in 2019, it was my first “proper” job and I was worried about settling in. But it was a very welcoming workplace and I’ve had many opportunities to prove my worth and add value - which is important to me. My managers regularly monitor my progress and give me praise and constructive criticism to help me improve.
There’s also plenty of training available to aid my development and the company culture puts emphasis on a viable work/life balance and prioritises our wellbeing. Like everyone else we were thrown into a COVID-19 world in 2020, but the business set its plans in place to keep us operating, while accommodating and promoting this stable work/life balance.
Amy Meehan, Graduate Trainee (Compliance)
I was attracted to NFU Mutual in 2019 because I knew two people who worked here and they both said it was a great place to work. There’s a positive and friendly culture, with a real sense of community. I think this comes from a being a mutual - we don’t have shareholders, so the main focus is giving our customers positive outcomes.
This creates an atmosphere where we all want to support our members and each other. Everyone I’ve met has always been happy to help me – even when I was probably asking silly questions! And this reflects in it being a great place to work.
Katie Barton, Graduate Trainee (Information Technology)
When I joined in 2017, I soon discovered that the company culture is based on a strong sense of teamwork, with the end goal of providing the best service to our customers. In the IT team, I’ve had opportunities to get involved with lots of different projects and programmes, from upgrading our core technology to introducing robotics and other innovative new systems.
As a graduate trainee, I’ve had the chance to gain a professional IT qualification and go on numerous courses to develop my soft skills. It’s really motivating to know that people who’ve been through the graduate trainee scheme have moved into successful roles across the company.
Marco Del Monaco, Graduate Trainee (Sales and Agency)
The graduate trainee scheme here attracted me because it offers the time to find your feet and establish yourself in a role that suits you. This freedom to progress, grow, take on new projects and experience different roles was a perfect fit for me.
Since joining, I’ve had lots of opportunities to gain both real life experience and industry standard qualifications. Everyone I’ve spoken to, including senior members of staff, has been willing to take time out of their day to help my development. Just as important, the company invests in developing you as a person and looks after your well-being so you enjoy your time at work.
Becky Smith, Graduate Trainee (Customer Services)
Living on a farm and growing up in a rural community, you soon realise NFU Mutual’s like no other insurer. The more I researched the training scheme, the more I liked the sound of experiencing different areas of the company over three years. I’ve worked in the Customer Relationship Team, Bristol Motor Claims and Underwriting Counter Fraud.
In each role, my opinions and contributions have always been highly valued. I’ve also had lots of exposure to senior management, who are really interested in my work and career development. Everybody holds the same high values and positive work ethic, which makes it enjoyable to come to work each day.
Jade Collins, Graduate Trainee (Group Change)
I joined NFU Mutual after graduating in 2019 because of the opportunities they give their graduate trainees. On the scheme I gain experience in several teams, with exposure to different activities and stakeholders. No two days are the same and that’s what I love! There’s always a new challenge to get stuck into and the ad-hoc nature of tasks keeps you on your toes.
From day one, my team have been incredibly supportive. When I was less confident at the beginning, my manager and peers always supported and motivated me. A great team can really make your working experience, and mine wouldn’t have been the same without them.
