Actuarial Finance

We have the opportunity for a graduate to join our Financial Actuarial division to assist in the preparation and interpretation of complex data and models as part of actuarial investigations.

Throughout the three-year scheme, we'll equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to become an effective Actuary, including:

  • Analysing data for actuarial calculations
  • Creating and enhancing actuarial models
  • Communicating the results from these models effectively to help the company inform business decisions.

You will also get the chance to study towards qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

Customer Service

Throughout this three-year scheme, you will work within our Claims, Underwriting and Customer Service Operations teams; rotating between teams to gain excellent exposure and understanding of varied insurance and company activities.

As well as providing structured on the job technical training to help you understand the core principles and processes of Claims and Underwriting, you will also have the opportunity to undertake placements within our Customer Service Operations teams where you will gain exposure to the following areas:

  • Automation
  • Planning
  • Complaints
  • Customer Experience
  • Data & MI

Whilst you will be based in our Head Office in Stratford Upon Avon, during the scheme, you will also have the opportunity to undertake a placement in one of our regional offices (Bristol or York), visit our Agency offices and spend time across the broader business to enhance your understanding of the structure and allow you to develop and widen your network.

Finance

Our Finance Graduate Scheme is designed to give you both hands-on practical experience and focussed technical know-how, to equip you with a balanced combination of soft and technical skills to become a competent and successful Finance Leader.

Throughout the three-year scheme, you’ll gain experience in areas such as Financial Reporting & Control, and Financial Planning & Analysis.

On top of this, we will support you through your professional accountancy qualifications of either CIMA or ACCA.

Financial Risk Actuarial

The Financial Risk department supports the Board of Directors with valuable insight to support decision making and to understand the prudential and financial risks faced by NFU Mutual.

Throughout the three-year scheme, you’ll have the opportunity to grow and develop your skills in a large organisation, you’ll have exposure to a wide range of stakeholders and the ability to influence strategic decision making. Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, refine and operate actuarial models.
  • Process and analyse data to allow it to be used in actuarial calculations.
  • Study towards your qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).

Financial Services

Throughout this three-year scheme, we’ll equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to make an informed decision on a future within Financial Services. This could be to become a Financial Adviser here at NFU Mutual, preparing you to discuss and provide financial planning options with our customers to help them plan for the future or to support our Financial Services aspirations in other key roles.

During the three year scheme you will experience placements throughout the Financial Services business. This will involve working as part of our telephone-based sales team, which will build up your product knowledge and develop your sales techniques. You will also spend time shadowing Financial Advisers and experiencing time in departments that will give you insight to the strategy of the Financial Services business.

Information Technology (Cyber)

Throughout this three-year programme, you will gain experience of many different areas of Cyber Security Services including: Cyber Operations, Architecture & Design, Vulnerability management, Technical Security and Security Assurance. You will also gain experience & knowledge within the wider Group IT as you work on projects, systems and architecture that integrate and interface with other IT departments.

To enhance your career, you will also undertake IT professional related qualifications and/or certifications to validate your skills & knowledge as you learn and progress. This could include a Level 7 Masters Apprenticeship in Cyber Security, where appropriate.

Information Technology (Guidewire and DevOps)

By joining our three-year Graduate Training Programme in this key central team of the NFU Mutual IT Division, you will gain experience in many different areas of Guidewire Centre of Excellence (which include The Full Guidewire Insurance Suite (Policy, Billing and Claims) and online Digital Portals (Vendor & Customer engage). Guidewire is the industry leading, award winning, insurance platform working with leading insurers in 38 countries.

Working alongside and with expert Developers you will become one a growing team of “in demand” Developers with NFU Mutual and across the Insurance industry. You will also gain experience & knowledge within the wider Group IT as you work on projects, systems and architecture that integrate and interface with other IT departments.

To enhance your career you will also undertake IT professional related qualifications and/or certifications to validate your skills & knowledge as you learn and progress. This could include a Level 7 Masters Apprenticeship in DevOps or Software Engineer, where appropriate.

Information Technology (Tech Ops)

Throughout this three-year programme, you will gain experience in many different areas including ServiceNow, Service Continuity, Tech Management (TOE), Capacity & Environment, Technical Services. You will also gain experience and knowledge within the wider Group IT as you work on projects, systems and architecture that integrate and interface with other IT departments.

To enhance your career you will also undertake IT professional related qualifications and/or certifications to validate your skills and knowledge as you learn and progress. This could include a Level 7 Masters Apprenticeship in DevOps or Software Engineer, where appropriate.

Pricing Analyst

This forward-thinking approach allows you to be part of an innovative department where you can actively shape our ways of working.

Our three-year Pricing Analyst scheme will see you involved in a range of insurance pricing elements including:

  • Extracting and analysing data for use in modelling.
  • Refining and operating models and reporting results to enable the team to make business decisions.
  • Preparing reports, communicating outcomes, responding to queries, and taking ownership of follow-up action to ensure an effective service to the team and business stakeholders.

You will have a structured career development plan in place and we will support you to complete relevant professional qualifications.

Pricing Design and Development

At NFU Mutual, a highly successful mutual organisation with £1.4 billion GWPI, our Pricing team focuses on delivering long-term value to our customers rather than short-term profit targets. This forward-thinking approach allows you to be part of an innovative department where you can actively shape our ways of working.

Our three-year scheme will see you gaining coding, software engineering, people and project management skills as you undertake a broad range of responsibilities including:

  • Designing, developing and implementing pricing algorithms applying standardisation or customisation as required.
  • Undertaking coding work to a high rate of accuracy and functionality for use in live customer rating.
  • Working with the wider Pricing team to develop their requirements into production ready algorithms to enhance the rating capability of the business.

You will have a structured career development plan in place and we will support you to complete relevant professional qualifications.

Sales and Agency (Head Office)

Our Sales and Agency Division spreads across the whole country and is an integral element of NFU Mutuals success. We support our selling network to help them perform at their best, and working on high profile projects that drives the change for our future.

During your time on our Sales and Agency Graduate Scheme, you will have the opportunity to rotate around the Sales and Agency division, doing three rotations across your three years with us whilst studying towards your Cert CII Diploma.

This means you will gain an excellent understanding of what the division does, how it influences and impacts the wider business, and how the areas connect to work towards the goal of driving outstanding sales performance and to support our Agency Network.

Sales and Agency (Regional)

Our Sales and Agency Division spreads across the whole country and is an integral element of NFU Mutuals success. We support our selling network to help them perform at their best, and working on high profile projects that drives the change for our future.

With nationwide opportunities, you’ll get involved from day one in real work and make a real impact. In your first year, we will support you in learning everything there is to know about our products and how to become a successful seller. This means you will be well equipped to develop customer relationships, meet their insurance needs, and give sound advice to those who need it.

You will also shadow our regional sales teams in driving sales performance, learning how our Agency Network grow their businesses and any additional support they need from these teams.

Frequently asked questions

How long are the programmes?

Our graduate programmes are typically three years long.

Where are we based?

Our Head Office is based in Stratford-upon-Avon, however we also have regional offices. Please look to each specific advert for more information about location of that scheme.

What are the types of schemes available?

We offer rotational schemes such as Customer Service, IT and Sales & Agency, which focus on gaining a breadth of knowledge across the division. We also offer specialist schemes which focus on gaining depth of technical expertise such as Actuarial and Pricing. Please look to each individual advert for more detail.

Do you offer professional qualifications?

Yes! All schemes allow you to complete your Chartered Certificate in Insurance when you start the business. Over the course of your scheme, you will then complete a relevant professional qualification for your role. See each scheme for more details.

What happens after the programme?

Throughout the programme we work with you to identify your goals and aspirations, so that by the end of the programme you know which type of role you would like to offboard to permanently.

Do you sponsor visas?

Unfortunately we are currently unable to sponsor visas for our graduate programmes. All applicants must have immigration permission that would allow them to complete the three-year graduate programme.

When do the programmes start?

Our programmes start in September each year, and you must apply the year before. For example, if you apply in October 2023 to one of our programmes, you will start in September 2024.

What's the starting salary?

Your starting salary will be £28,500.

When are you open for applications?

Our applications open mid-September and are typically open for six to eight weeks. However, please be aware that we will close early if we get sufficient applicants. So make sure you apply as soon as you can!
