-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

At NFU Mutual, our Sales team is at the core of what we do, helping us grow and build strong relationships with customers.

We offer two types of graduate scheme within sales: one based at our head office in Stratford-upon-Avon, and another as part of our regional teams across the UK. So, what’s the difference? The regional team focuses on working directly with customers and delivering on the ground, while the head office team takes a broader approach, supporting overall strategies and direction.

Both schemes will give you the chance to collaborate with our Agency Network – our local branches, which are vital to our success. They’re how we connect with customers throughout the UK and grow through personalised, local engagement.

In the first two years you’ll rotate between teams, gaining hands-on experience. By your third year, we’ll tailor a placement to match your interests and career goals.

Although our graduates are based across the UK, we work hard to make sure it still feels like one team. You’ll join a national cohort, coming together regularly at Head Office for shared training as well as valuable development sessions. This balance means you’ll build strong connections with your fellow graduates while still driving forward regional projects and placements that are unique to your area.

Where will I be based?
For all regional schemes you’ll have a company car / car allowance and can expect to travel to agencies on average three to four days a week, with the rest of your time spent working from home. If you’re on the South East scheme, one of those days will be spent in London. For our Head Office scheme, you’ll be based in Stratford-upon-Avon on a hybrid basis.

Entry requirements
To join this scheme, you’ll have obtained, or be working towards, a minimum degree classification of 2:1. You don’t need a degree in a particular area - we’re interested in your passion for learning, curiosity and your potential. For the regional schemes, you’ll also need to hold a full, valid UK driving licence.

Meet some of the graduates

NFU Mutual Careers - Bethan Wheatley Image.jpg

Bethan Wheatley, Customer Services Professional Trainee

I was initially drawn to NFU Mutual's people-first culture and its mutual status. There is a lot of focus on development, flexibility, and your wellbeing. Access to hybrid working and technology also encourages collaboration across regions which is great for expanding your network, as well as for promoting a work-life balance.

What I enjoy the most is the variety! So far, I have worked in Motor Claims, Motor and Personal Underwriting and now Personal Lines Propositions. Each rotation can be tailored to your interests and growth, and you are encouraged to explore different business areas. This allows you to understand the bigger picture of the company and enables you to discover where your interests lie.

NFU Mutual Careers - Eric Wood Image.jpg

Eric Wood, Customer Services Professional Trainee

I’ve found a great company culture, engaging and rewarding work, and significant learning and development opportunities. I’ve never had a dull day here. As well as gaining Professional Qualifications and having classes with the Chartered Insurance Institute, I’ve attended numerous workshops to build my soft business skills and have access to media subscriptions to keep up to date on business and market developments.

I’ve had coaching sessions with the talent team, one-to-one leadership sessions with senior figures, and I’ve also been paired with a mentor from the second year of the graduate scheme. So, if I have a question or need guidance, I know there’s someone I can approach. This gives me the confidence to explore my passion – risk analysis.

NFU Mutual Careers - Wiktoria Nydza Image.jpg

Wiktoria Nydza, Insurance Sales Professional Trainee

One of the things that really stood out to me was how different this graduate scheme is compared to others. My role is field based, which means I get to experience lots of different parts of the business. That variety has been brilliant for my development, it’s helped me build a broader understanding of the company and given me the chance to learn from different teams and situations.

The scheme is full of chances to get involved in different projects, meet new people, and explore areas of the business you might not have considered before. My advice is to be open-minded, don’t be afraid to say yes and step outside your comfort zone - you’re encouraged to shape your own journey!

NFU Mutual Careers - Emilia Hine Image.jpg

Emilia Hine, Marketing and Digital Professional Trainee

I was first attracted to NFU Mutual by its company values, which aligned with my own personal values, and its credentials as a great employer. The whole onboarding process is well-thought out and thorough, covering all necessary areas that a new starter might have questions or concerns about.

What I like most about my job is the genuine care and investment shown towards me by my peers, colleagues, and managers. My scheme consists of four placements within the Marketing and Digital division, where I’ll work towards a qualification, receive extensive training, and gain invaluable experience across a range of marketing and digital roles. The culture here is supportive, empowering, and inclusive, which motivates me to do my best every day.
