Our key teams

Applications (Guidewire Centre of Excellence)

We develop and support all NFU Mutual’s Guidewire applications, including ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, DataHub and InfoCenter, and have plans to implement PolicyCenter. We’re leading the way in agile development, which delivers more rapid changes to support evolving business objectives.

Join us and you’ll be involved in critical work, supporting the General Insurance business by driving better handler and customer experiences. You’ll also enjoy working in a fun, supportive team that’s proud of the positive impact we have on the business and our customers.

Business Analysis

The Business Analysis team is at the heart of every project and business IT change at NFU Mutual. We are involved in the whole project from its early inception through to post implementation support.

Our role is to work with both Stakeholders in the business areas of NFUM and the IT teams to elicit and manage the requirements behind all system and process changes and trace these through the development lifecycle to implementation.

Business Relationship Management

In this team we have two core functions – business relationship management and innovation. As a Business Relationship Manager, you’ll work closely with the business to match IT strategy with business strategy and ensure they get value for money from their IT investments.

This means building effective relationships with key decision makers and handling any questions or concerns quickly and professionally. Our innovation team investigates new ideas, challenges conventional thinking and promotes innovative ways of working to add value to the business.

Cloud Infrastructure Services

It’s an exciting time to join the Cloud Infrastructure Services Team (CIS). You’ll be at the heart of our ‘Cloud First’ technology strategy, helping to pave the way for a cloud based future. We provide cloud related consultancy, design, implementation and support services for cutting edge infrastructure technologies that underpin anything from key business systems to data and Management Information platforms.

Using Agile methodologies and practices, with a heavy focus on automation, we ensure that our systems are flexible, fast and efficient to meet growing business demands.

Governance and Control

Join this team and you’ll help us to provide sound frameworks and guidance to all our IT teams in a range of areas. These include managing risk, controls, audit activity, staff recruitment and independent testing of new developments.

It’s vital work, because good governance means we understand the risks involved and the controls we have. In turn, this gives the business confidence in our systems and services that support customers throughout the lifetime of their policies with us.

Service Delivery

Service Delivery is the ‘shop front’ of IT and encompasses seven different teams, all of which play an important role in ensuring that the IT that underpins our business is fully operational and fit for purpose. Our Service Desk is there to respond to customer queries, while our Operations Support team investigate disruptions and coordinate major incidents. Access Management make sure that our people have what they need and Service Assurance works to ensure that everyone is delivering IT services in line with our customer’s expectations.

Both Release & Deployment and Service Design & Transition work with project and BAU teams to ensure that when things change, they meet our controls and we are ready to support them. While Change Management oversees the change calendar, ensuring that we minimise any potential risks. But more than anything else, each and every team puts our customers at the heart of IT.

Solution Design

Join us and you’ll be at the sharp end of high profile change initiatives, creating end-to-end designs for business solutions. We’re involved from the earliest stages, consulting, advising, challenging and making recommendations to senior managers on any business project that has multiple technical aspects.

Then we design the agreed solution and bring together all the components and teams. Our cohesive, planned approach means we make sure the solution fits our IT strategy, as well as meeting business needs.

Solutions and Information Architecture

As NFU Mutual’s business continues to change and grow, this team plays a vital role in ensuring our IT infrastructure continues to meet business needs. Join us and you’ll help to lead the architecture design and implementation of technical solutions that put data at the heart of our future business success.

As one of our highly respected specialists, you’ll play a key role in a variety of major transformation projects. Just as important, you’ll help to deliver technology solutions and governance across the business.

Technology, Adoption and Innovation

As part of the IT Architecture department, we use Microsoft and workplace technologies to enable digital transformation and ensure adoption across NFU Mutual. We deliver change innovatively and in a scalable way by managing projects of all sizes, from supporting adoption for an individual, to helping teams collaborate and releasing organisational change.

Whatever the project, we always focus on using new and existing technologies in exciting ways to introduce change with as little risk and disruption as possible.

Testing

Our skilled professionals within this team test and assure that our IT and business systems are fit for purpose before they go live. This makes us the main guarantor for the quality of IT deliverables in the company. It is a multi-disciplinary team that offers a wide range of different types of testing.

We encompass both functional and non-functional testing, using a range of industry-standard technologies and methodologies. Our mission is to detect defects and non-conformities to requirements early: as the earlier the detection, the easier (and cheaper) it is to correct.

Meet some of the team

Sam Farrar, Technology Adoption Specialist

There’s a very supportive and friendly atmosphere here, with a real focus on development. Since joining in 2015, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to develop my technical and personal skills, so I’m unrecognisable from the person who joined.

There’s a lot of freedom to introduce changes and new thinking. The company wants to do right by both customers and colleagues by being true to its roots, while taking security seriously, so it’s prepared to improve over time. It’s really nice to work somewhere that understands that change is important, but not to change so fast that you lose sight of your company values.

Peter Bentley, DevOps Development Engineer

Working at NFU Mutual makes me feel very valued, protected and looked after as an employee and gives me lots of opportunities to grow and develop. There’s a lot of flexibility - I work from home two days a week and largely choose the hours I work on a given day and my managers trust me to deliver the work I’m given.

The company was also incredibly supportive during an extremely difficult period when my partner suffered a miscarriage. They gave me more time off than I could ever have expected and provided emotional support whenever I needed it.

Lucy Lee, IT Service Management Lead

I’ve worked here since 1996 and had many opportunities to grow professionally. I started in an administrative role, but soon joined a customer service team, before moving into the Financial Services division, supporting our financial consultants. Then I joined Group IT in 2001.

The company’s been like a family to me and they really do care about their people. They’ve looked after me, giving me opportunities to complete a number of qualifications. They also supported me with flexible and part time working after I had both my children. I’m incredibly proud to be part of such a great organisation.
