Learning & Organisational Development

Supporting our colleagues to be the best that they can be

Learning & Organisational Development

We have around 60 people working here in Learning & Organisational Development (L&OD) – in our Stratford-upon-Avon Head Office as well as our York, Bristol and Glasgow Regional Service Centres. Our aim - our passion - is to make NFU Mutual a great place to work, with a winning performance culture and world-class employee engagement. We work in close partnership with each Division focused on business, team and individual performance, to deliver engaging, interactive learning experiences and to make sure that everyone who works with us has the opportunity to be the best they can be.

As a team, we have the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to deliver the best experience to our customers. The scale of what we do, the sheer diversity of activities, and the pace and conviction with which we do everything, might surprise you. We’re constantly reviewing our approach and solutions to the business, including how we deliver it to our colleagues. We play a critical role in developing people capabilities to meet the needs of the business today and for tomorrow.

NFU Mutual Careers - Our People - Profile Blank Image.jpg

Gary Pearce, Learning Development Specialist

I joined NFU Mutual straight after my A-levels in 2004. What really impressed me was that they were willing to invest in me from the start. There are always lots of opportunities here and I’ve worked in several different divisions. For example, four years ago I moved from commercial underwriting to learning and development.

The business has always invested in me - from gaining my CII qualifications as an underwriter to learning a new set of skills in my current role, including gaining my CIPD level 5 diploma in Learning & Development. Of course, you have to take ownership of your own career, but the opportunities are there.

Matt Watson, Leadership Development Specialist

I’d heard that NFU Mutual look after their people, but when I joined in 2019, I wasn’t expecting it to be as friendly as it is. It’s not only friendly, but you’re respected and encouraged to develop yourself, as well others.

For a fairly large company it has a certain family feel to it. It’s also fun - I love that people take time out to chat with each other and not just about work. So, we walk the talk when it comes to our guiding principles and being a great place to work. I feel very lucky to play a part in making this happen.
