As part of Compliance, we also have a Financial Crime Team that guides and supports the business to prevent NFU Mutual and its customers from being used in financial crime.

We support the business by providing technical solutions to manage data protection, information security and business continuity risk. We also have a team that manages an insurance programme to minimise the financial impact of operational risk. This gives our members, partners and suppliers confidence in us as a great company to do business with.

Financial Risk

The Financial Risk department focuses on measuring and managing the financial risks faced by the organisation. This includes setting regulatory capital requirements, managing the with profits fund, and monitoring the Group’s solvency position.

Join us and you’ll use your expertise to deliver effective financial risk management and help set business strategy. It's varied and interesting work - you can be assessing exposure to market crashes one day and extreme flooding the next. In short, you’ll play a key role in protecting the business from the financial risks it faces every day.

Operational Risk and Prudential Compliance

In Operational Risk and Prudential Compliance we report to the Board and governance committees to assure that risk management is working effectively. This involves providing tools, frameworks, training and expert advice to the business to manage risk, as well as overseeing and challenging the management of operational risk across the business. At the same time, we manage our relationship with the regulator – the Prudential Regulation Authority and keep the business up-to-date with all prudential compliance requirements.

Meet some of the team

David Hann, Compliance Consultant

When I came for my first interview at NFU Mutual, I got a good vibe about the place - everyone seemed genuinely friendly and upbeat. Literally as soon as I joined, I was asked if I wanted to further my professional qualifications. Not only did the company support me in gaining my APFS/Chartered Financial Planner status, they rewarded me for getting it!

I truly believe what sets us apart is our mutual status. The company’s genuinely driven by doing the right thing for its customers and staff. I feel that I have a huge opportunity in my role to help the business continue to do this.

Adam Byrne, Actuarial Consultant

In 2016, I was working as a teacher in central London, but looking to move out of the city into a new role. I really liked that NFU Mutual is owned entirely by its policyholders. This means it truly cares about its customers and that was the kind of company I wanted to work for.

I joined as an Actuarial Trainee, with an excellent study package, including financial support for study materials. I’ve also gained experience in several teams, which has helped me grow professionally. I’ve also had the support of a mentor, who helps me to consider how to progress in my career.

Stephanie Knight, Risk Analyst

The work here is varied and very interesting, but it’s the people who really make the job great. My role involves speaking to people right across the business and, even if I’m really busy or I’m not in my usual office, I can usually count on someone to give a cheery smile.

There’s a sense that everyone’s working towards the same goal and willing to help each other along the way. That might involve providing some business information at short notice, or asking how you’re doing if they haven’t seen you for a while. It’s a really lovely atmosphere to work in.
