Wholesale Broking and Outplacement

Supporting our teams in acquiring and retaining customers

Wholesale Broking and Outplacement

Just over 50 people work with us here in Wholesale Broking and Outplacement Services and, it’s fair to say, our remit is a varied and very important one. We work on an unusually wide range of insurance subject matter, from Complex Casualty to Financial Risk, Marine Hull to Animal Disease.

And as well as supporting our NFU Mutual Agency network and Regional Sales teams in acquiring and retaining customers, we support Head Office Underwriting’s strategic goals, and facilitate and provide the outplacement of large, complex, high-risk Commercial and Specialty Risks for our Agency network through the Composite and London Insurance Markets. As a result, the Broker Services teams offer a wide range of roles from placement and sales to business transformation and business development - all under one roof.

Our key teams

Business Development

In this small team, we provide vital support to the NFU Mutual agency network, ensuring they and their customers understand the full range of our products. Join us and you’ll be out and about, visiting agencies and their customers. As well as training agents in our products, providing sales and marketing support and helping to win new business, you’ll ensure they comply with all regulations. In short, you’ll be the essential link between the agencies and the wider group.

Placement and Supply Chain

Join this team and you’ll be working closely with other insurers to develop strong working relationships, understand and assess their products and decide which ones we’ll offer to our customers. It’s an important role, as you’ll be helping to make key decisions that have a direct effect on our whole product portfolio.

Regulatory and Business Transformation

In this small, but growing team we ensure NFU Mutual’s agency network and supply chain of external providers meet all regulatory and risk requirements. Join us and you’ll help ensure we place insurance efficiently and securely for the agencies. This may involve improving our e-commerce systems and processes, providing management information on performance, introducing and monitoring risk controls, or systems training for people across the business. Ultimately, you’ll help our agents place more insurance for their clients, with increased knowledge in a competitive market place.

Sales and Service

We work closely with the NFU Mutual agency network to manage cover for our customers in areas where we don’t have services of our own. That means finding and working with a range of partner organisations to offer customers a full range of insurance products. And giving our agents first class support so they understand all the cover we offer. In short, we play an essential role in retaining and winning business by making sure we offer customers the complete insurance package.

What you could be working on

Join one of our teams and you’ll be playing a key role in ensuring our agency network has the products, knowledge and support they need to give their customers excellent service. This may include:

Paul Roberts, Quality & Compliance Co-ordinator

I was attracted to NFU Mutual because it’s a long-established and successful company. When I came to the offices for my interview, I was also impressed with how welcoming and friendly everyone was. In the two years since then, I’ve really enjoyed the fantastic team culture.

Everyone I’ve worked with wants to succeed and help each other to make the business a great success. The company also values and develops its people. I’ve been given the investment, tools and support to build my knowledge of the industry. I’ve previously worked for two large retail banks over 15 years and this is easily the best company I’ve worked for.

Jessica Breakwell, Renewal Account Handler

An old colleague had moved to NFU Mutual and I knew they were enjoying it, so when I wanted to move my career forward in 2017, I applied. Once I learned more about the company, its values, and the training, support and benefits it offers, I wanted the job even more! It’s a very supportive company and always helps you to progress your career.

For example, my manager has helped me to gain a place on an Aspiring Leadership Programme. As well as ensuring I was fully prepared for the assessment day, they also support the time I need away from the office to attend the course and do the ongoing coursework.

Kelly de Ste Croix, Supply Chain Manager – Financial Lines

Before joining NFU Mutual in 2019, I worked for AIG, managing the NFU Mutual/NIS Financial Lines account. The people I dealt with here always spoke very highly of the support, career progression and job satisfaction, so I decided I wanted to be part of it all!

There’s a supportive and cohesive culture here. My manager trusts my knowledge and expertise and supports me to get on with things, which is a great confidence boost. I also have demanding three-year old twins and right from the beginning, my manager was clear that family was important. This allowed me to ensure my availability to support colleagues and agents, but also have family time.

Tristan Antrobus-Holder, Business Development Consultant

When I joined NFU Mutual in 2017 I was impressed that they viewed their people as individuals rather than statistics. This became apparent when my partner gave birth to our second child and they were both in hospital for some time. Shortly afterwards, my partner was hospitalised with pneumonia and our baby got chickenpox.

During this time my line manager, team and the business as a whole offered all the emotional and work support I needed. This meant so much - I’ve never worked in a business where everyone cares so much, not just about the work they do, but the people they work with and represent.
