Underwriting Account Performance Manager

  • A high-profile, strategic role that is pivotal to the success of our sustainable, profitable growth.

  • A unique opportunity to contribute to the continued evolution of the team’s focus and strategic role within the department.

  • Hybrid role with 80% homeworking and 20% in Stratford-upon-Avon.

About the role

As a result of an internal promotion, we’re seeking an experienced Performance Manager to join our Head Office Underwriting and Pricing Department. This is a pivotal role in driving the financial success of NFU Mutual by leading a team dedicated to defining and managing profit targets, fostering sustainable growth, and ensuring the effective execution of our financial objectives.

As our Performance Manager, you’ll lead, support, and empower the Performance team to identify, explore and recommend management action designed to achieve or improve the financial performance of the business by challenging the status quo through the Underwriting Account Management across all products and NFU Mutual’s General Insurance governance structures. You’ll also lead projects and actions through cross-functional teams that support our evolution of underwriting data and analytical capability.

You’ll act as an independent voice of underwriting performance when briefing senior management on performance trends and insights, building relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, including Pricing, Marketing, Propositions, Sales, Agency, and Financial Planning teams to ensure effective collaboration and engagement in the achievement of commercial objectives.

Collaborating closely with the Data Centre of Excellence, you’ll lead efforts to transition to cloud-based data solutions, unlocking new possibilities for data storage, processing and analytics. This transition will enhance the scalability and flexibility of our data infrastructure and will also pave the way for more advanced analytics capabilities to support effective strategic decision-making.

About you

You're an experienced and driven leader with a track record of being directly accountable for the profitability of a general insurance product or account. You’ll possess strong analytical skills and the ability to use large data sets to drive strategic change and enhance data capability and insight.

You’re a critical thinker with a strategic mindset, and you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo and make recommendations for improvement. You’re also a collaborative and supportive team player, who can lead, motivate, and develop others to achieve their potential and deliver results.

You’ll also have:

  • The ability to build meaningful relationships across multiple functions

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills

  • The confidence and ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across the business

  • Experience of supporting a strategy development process by developing papers addressing strategic problems

At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique.  We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.

We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during  the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.

We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
