What you will be doing?

Our paid Summer Internship Programmes are an investment in you and your career – they will give you a real job with real responsibility, gaining first-hand experience working in the Insurance Industry.

Our 8-week internship programmes offer you the opportunity to learn how our insurance business operates, work closely with various stakeholders, network across the business and engage in real project work within your chosen business area to make a tangible positive impact.

Whichever programme you choose, you’ll be supported every step of the way, with scheduled training from our Learning and Development department and a dedicated mentor on hand to guide you. Successful completion of the programme may even lead to you being fast-tracked through our graduate programme application process for 2024, subject to eligibility.

You will only be able to apply to one of our internship programmes, so please ensure you have taken the time to understand which is the best programme for you.

Actuary

The Financial Risk department provide valuable insight to support decision making and to understand the prudential and financial risks faced by NFU Mutual. We monitor movements in the financial risk appetite positions and drive actions to ensure that the capital always remains within the acceptable ranges. We support the With-Profits Committee to ensure that the with profits fund and products are managed in accordance with our Principles and Practices of Financial Management (PPFM) rules, and lead communications with the PRA on commercially sensitive items and items of strategic importance and provide prudential risk-based opinions up to and including the CEO and the Board. We work closely with the business to ensure that risks are understood and facilitated within risk appetites.

Join as an Actuary Summer Intern and gain first-hand experience in our Risk Department working on a real project to contribute to our Departmental Objectives.

On track for a minimum 2:1 honours degree, ideally in a numerical or science based subject. You must also have gained a minimum of grade B in Maths at A-level.

Agency Department

The Agency Network is the heart of NFU Mutual and ensuring this unique distribution model continues to meet the future needs of our customers is at the core of what agency department do. Its key focus is on enabling sustainable, profitable and high performing businesses that deliver an optimal customer experience. This is through support to the network right from Agent Recruitment, Leadership Development and investments into their businesses, through to setting our property footprint strategy and Target Operating Model.

And as NFU Mutual introduces new tools and processes the department manages change into the network and supports Agencies by creating operational efficiency benefits. The department is also responsible for the commercial agreements and financial arrangements with our Agencies and is required to adhere to certain FCA regulatory requirements relation to these activities. It also maintains and develops the strong relationships that exist with the Farming Unions, our Regional Advisory Boards and Agent representative groups and continues to drive the future evolution of the agency network.

Join as a Summer Intern to work with the team and gain 1st hand experience in what it takes to support our Agency Network on a day-to-day basis.

Audit

The Group Internal Audit Department help’s the board and executive management to protect NFU Mutual’s assets, reputation and sustainability. How? By assessing if major risks are identified, reported and controlled effectively. But it’s not all about providing assurance - it’s also about adding value. We work with teams across the business to recommend improvements and best practice, too.

Join as a Summer Intern and gain first-hand experience in our Audit Department working on a real audit and contributing to our Departmental Objectives.

Degree in any subject welcome, on track for a 2:2 honours degree.

IT Service Delivery

The Service Delivery department provide First Line IT service desk support to staff across our main national offices and local regional agency offices. Main system monitoring and management dealing with incidents and then repairing. Providing low level IT software and hardware solution. Overall ensuring service run smoothly and staff are able to use the service effectively.

Join as a Service Delivery Intern and gain first-hand experience working on real day to day operational case work, helping solve issues and contributing towards IT ensuring they offer a great service to its staff and regional offices.

On track for a minimum 2:2 honours degree, ideally in an IT based subject. Have a genuine interest in IT and some experience of working with people.

IT Tech Adoption

The Technology Adoption team enable the ongoing adoption of new ways of working and usage optimisation of Office365 tools through the delivery of change management. Maintain the service via incident, problem management and technical change requests as required.

Join as a Tech Adoption Intern and gain first-hand experience working on real Office365 tools adoption case work, helping solve day to day operations issues and contributing towards IT ensuring they offer a great service to its staff and regional offices.

On track for a minimum 2:2 honours degree, ideally in an IT based subject. Have a genuine interest in IT and some experience of working with people.

Press and Public Affairs

Our work to protect and promote NFU Mutual’s reputation is vital to our long-term success. By creating engaging and thought- provoking messages we aim to connect people to our business, build trust in what we do and manage our reputation effectively.

Join as a Summer intern and gain first-hand experience working on our biggest campaign of the year - Rural Crime - which involves producing a wide range of communications assets from report content, to news releases, to case studies, to infographics. The campaign audiences include our customers; trade, regional, national and broadcast media in addition to a wide range of stakeholders ranging from police to politicians.

A Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or English is welcome but above all we are looking for someone who is passionate about communication and interested in current affairs.

Regional Sales

The Regional Sales department have the responsibility of bringing 90% of NFU Mutual’s GWPI into the business. From sales to business performance, from quality assurance to future outlook. This department is a core function of the future of NFU Mutual and the customers it protects.

Join as a Summer Intern to work with the team whose goal is to prepare and drive our agency network to its best performance possible.

Degree in any subject welcome, on track for a 2:2 honours degree.

About you

You will need to be available for the duration of the internship programme and be a penultimate year undergraduate student, on track to meet the degree requirements stated for your chosen programme. We will also consider applications from first year university students.

If you are due to graduate before the internship begins, you will not be eligible.
