Ensuring we do things right to secure our future
Join our Internal Audit team in Stratford-upon-Avon and you’ll be involved in a wide variety of work that has a positive impact on our whole business. We help the board and executive management to protect NFU Mutual’s assets, reputation and sustainability. How? By assessing if major risks are identified, reported and controlled effectively.
But it’s not all about providing assurance - it’s also about adding value. We work with teams across the business to recommend improvements and best practice, too. With excellent training and development opportunities, including support towards Chartered status, Internal Audit’s proved to be a great launchpad for careers across NFU Mutual.

A day in the life of ...
While no two days in Internal Audit are the same, we thought we’d offer you a small insight into what you might experience as an Auditor.
Drive to work, aim to get into the office for 9 o’clock.
Grab a coffee from the canteen followed by a team meeting to get organised for the day.
Face-to-face meeting with our business client to review requests and understand their area. All part of building a strong working relationship.
Evidence gathering. We do this each day to check we’re getting the evidence we need to form our audit conclusions.
Lunchtime! We usually head to the canteen as a team. It’s nice to catch up and discuss non-work things.
Update my manager on the morning’s work, field any questions and prepare for tomorrow’s meetings.
Check in with the team. Leading an audit, it’s good to keep tabs on progress and find out if they need any support.
Update the client. We work on a no surprises basis, so a daily update lets them know where the audit is and any issues.
Write up. I usually like to write up my day’s work on file. It helps to keep it up-to-date while I remember!
Meet some of the team
Graham Weaver, Auditor
To be honest, I hadn’t heard of NFU Mutual when I applied to join them in 1993, but they were recommended by a university colleague. The company culture’s closely aligned to my morals - they always look to do the best for their members. For me this is just right.
We’re very active and supportive in the farming and wider sectors and the people are very supportive too in helping each other. The people play a large part in why I’ve stayed here for over 25 years. I’ve made some great friends, many of whom still work for the company.
Zahra Aurangzeb, Audit Professional Trainee
I joined NFU Mutual in 2019, it was the culture that attracted me as it seemed very customer focused and its principles aligned with my own. The Mutual has a friendly and positive environment and is very accommodating to personal needs. I am currently studying for an ACCA qualification and it can be difficult studying and working at the same time.
NFU Mutual gave me the opportunity to gain my qualification on an apprenticeship scheme, and it has been extremely helpful. I’ve been attending classroom-based sessions, which has enabled me to study to my full potential and still have my weekends free, allowing me to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
Aleksandra Lambrecht, Professional Trainee
I was looking for an employer that would support my professional development, and this was something that NFU Mutual offered. I also read a lot of positive statements online about the company. The NFU Mutual culture is very employee friendly, since joining I have had a lot of support and received flexibility to have time off work in order to prepare for my exams.
There are very good work/life balance opportunities, as well as development possibilities. I’ve completed PRINCE2 qualifications, taken courses in MS Excel and PowerBI and I’m working towards the auditing qualifications. I’ve also participated in a series of workshops, covering topics such as resilience and effective influencing.
