Ever since NFU Mutual was established in 1910, we’ve provided a variety of financial products to customers across the UK based on personal service and honest advice. Our Financial Advisers are at the heart of this, providing insurance, pension, investment, and other wealth management products. We took some time to talk to Rob Bamford, Financial Adviser, to understand what life in the role is like.
I was drawn to the NFU Mutual because of its exceptional reputation. Members really value the service they get, the face to face personalised experience and being able to trust the organisation and the people working for it. When I joined in 2018 I was instantly pleased by the ethical nature of the business. I’m encouraged to do my job properly, do the best for the customer, and provide the benefits of the best advice.
I thrive on the satisfaction of helping people get to a strong financial position. It’s a great feeling knowing that the customer is in a better position when you leave them compared to when you first met them. After all, that’s what the client is really looking for.
The close relationship with NFU Mutual Agencies makes the role unique. By working closely with the agents I’m partnered with, we are able to offer a full package providing our customers peace of mind over their general insurance and financial advice needs.
The agencies provide good quality prequalified leads which are everything to an adviser. This allows you to focus your time on delivering advice rather than fishing for leads. The relationship and way of working makes you much more focused and effective. It’s a real collaboration and you can build a strong working relationship and feel like part of a team; unlike anything you’ve experienced in the IFA world.
In the Mutual, your colleagues are here to support and help you and the training you get is comprehensive. Support is provided by Paraplanning, a dedicated Process Support Team, Technical Team, and Advice Checking Team. Unlike in the IFA world, you get a one-to-one support and your fellow financial advisers are always at hand and willing to help. Your manager is there to help guide and support you, not only in relation to the job at hand, but also for your next steps. You truly are fully supported.
The bonus structure NFU Mutual offer is extremely generous. You’re paid a basic salary, a company performance annual bonus, and a sales related bonus. However, you are never pressured into selling; you are paid to give best advice. When advice results in sales you’re handsomely rewarded.
It’s fantastic to work for a company which looks after its staff and prides itself on advisers doing the right thing.
