Our Process Automation team play a crucial role in freeing our people up to spend more time on what they do best – giving our customers a great service. As a fairly new team, they have saved the business an impressive 3.6 million minutes which has unsurprisingly led to an increased demand for automation across the business and so the team is growing. We caught up with Rebecca Norman-Kime, our Process Automation Manager, to understand more about her and her team.
My background…
I joined NFU Mutual as Principal Intelligence Analyst working within a team to identify insurance fraud and quickly transitioned to our Financial Crime capability within Group Compliance. A few years later I got the opportunity to take a role as Business Lead in a change programme to deliver a new counter fraud system. I loved working in a change delivery environment and became Group Counter Fraud System Manager thereafter. A couple of years later, when NFU Mutual was looking to invest more into RPA, I took on the role as Process Automation Manager and have loved every minute of it.
What I enjoy most about NFU Mutual…
Without a doubt, it’s the people. We really focus on getting culture right at NFU Mutual, and that means you can come to work as yourself and know that your thoughts, feelings, effort and developmental needs are all going to be taken seriously and form a regular part of conversations with your manager. People stick around at NFU Mutual, so it’s fun coming back to the office and catching up with people you’ve worked in the past and comparing notes on home life or new work projects.
A bit about my team…
I love this role and everything the team is doing to bring the future of work to NFU Mutual. We use RPA and AI to deliver Process Automation projects. We have three sub-teams who each have an area of responsibility.
Our Business Partners look after new and existing demand. Their roles occupy a sweet spot between Business Analysis, Project Management and Relationship Management. Our Developers create new processes and utilise UiPath software, working together to maximise their collective skillset and help one another to deliver value. Finally, our Technical team is where platform and live processes are looked after and where we scope out new technology with R&D projects.
What I am most proud of…
I’m so proud of all that the team do. We have a thirst for success and for learning new skills, which is coupled with a real drive to do things the right way. We are continually evolving to improve on our ways of working and each person in the team plays an active role in that.
Some major milestones over the years have included; reaching our first £1m in efficiency, going from idea to live with our first pandemic response automation project within 4 weeks, then repeating a similar project 2 years later and delivering it within 48 hours, and getting the ExCo approval to scale up.
The first part of scaling Process Automation has taken place and we’ve restructured the team and appointed Team Leaders. Next up is welcoming more people into our Process Automation family. We are doubling our capability this year and, if we stay on track, have plans to grow again by 2024.
We’re hiring!
We are seeking individuals who share our passion and energy for getting things done right. You will take ownership for your deliverables and be able to share your existing knowledge across the team. If you are new to RPA, then expect to be supported and coached by your Team Leader and peers. We love choosing the right project for the right person, so if you want experience in a particular system or toolset, we will make sure that’s on your project list. We also want people to enjoy coming into the office once a week. The atmosphere and office environment are both great and when the sun shines, we love an outdoor team meeting or lunch time walk.
